New Idea

Our rough cut was far too dark so we will need to film it again. Instead of our original idea of having a robbery at a house we are going to change it to an attempted car robbery. Our main reason for doing this is to make sure our continuity is successful. This means the attempted car robbery can be filmed close to the alley in which the chase is held. If we kept our original idea of a house robbery the continuity could be lost because we would have to change location from the house to the alley which may not be successful.

So our idea is that a robbery is breaking into a car, the owner then comes out and the chase begins. The robber is chased down the alley and is then knocked out. The screen then goes all dark and the title of the film is shown, 'Cold Chase'.

I learnt a great deal throughout the day. I learnt a lot on how Adobe Premier Pro works and the features that can be used in order to edit video. I also learnt how to add and edit sound which then can be edited onto the video. Even though I learnt a great deal about the software very Little work was completed editing wise because the software crashed at least three times. This resulted in our group completing our other aim of the ILP day which was to research chase scenes.

Our group looked at chase scenes from 'Prom Night', 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre' and 'Casino Royale'. We also looked at chase scenes from 'Forest' and 'Reply' which were two independent film which we found on 'YouTube'.

From our research we found out that the shots were mostly completed by the use of long shots and close up. We concluded that the long shots were used to establish the depth of the chase whilst the close ups were used to show emotion of the characters which is used to build tension and to keep the audience interested in what they are watching.

Plan for ILP

Our group aims to complete the editing for our rough cut. We plan to edit all the clips together and to add titles to the clips. We also aim to research chase scenes from other movies such as from Casino Royale and other thriller chase scenes. We will do this in order to find out what makes a good chase scene and how we can make our thriller beginning look good.

First Draft Rough Cut

Mairead and Charlie completed a great amount of filming in order for our first version of our rough to be completed. They filmed down an alley in Chalfont St Peter. They filmed at this location because our group had planned for the chase scene to be in a alley to add to the effect of the thriller. Charlie and Mairead filmed at around 7.00pm on the 28th of January.

Mairead completed the low down shots. She did this by sitting on the ground in order to film. This method was very effective because the shots were steady and clear. Charlie, on the other hand, completed the high up shots which consisted of the high angle shots. He did this by using the tripod and climbed up a nearby tree in order to get the correct shot.

Problems:
1. The first draft of out rough cut was too short only lasting for around 20 seconds. This needs to be made considerably longer as the final version needs to be approximately 2 minutes.
2. The footage was too dark. This needs to be made brighter the next time we film. We will do this by maybe filming at an earlier time in the day or using torches as props in the chase. By doing this the shots will be more clearer and lighter.

The Vow Of Chastity

The vow of chastity is made up of ten rules.

These rules consists of -

1. Filming must be shot on location, Props and sets should not be brought in.

2. The sound must never be produced apart from the images or vice versa.

3. The camera must be hand held. Any movement or immobility attainable in the hand is permitted.

4. The film must be in colour. Special lighting is not acceptable.

5. Optical work and filters are forbidden.

6. The film must not contain any superficial action. (Such as weapons, murder etc)

7. Temporal and geographical alienation are forbidden. (That is to say that the film takes place here and now.)

8. Genre movies are not acceptable.

9. The film format must be Academy 35 mm.

10. The director must not be credited.

First Practise Filming for our Thriller

Only one member of our group went out filming this was Charlie. This is because myself and Mairead were unable to attend because of a variety of reasons.

Charlie filmed two chase shots which consisted of him holding the video camera whilst running in order to give the scene a tense atmosphere. The shots were relatively good but were maybe a bit too dark which resulted in poor quality shots which were not very clear. The person who was being chased could not be seen very well because of the darkness. These shots may have to be shot again in a more brighter setting in order to get a better quality of video. Charlie filmed on the 15th/16th of January at around 7.00pm when it was already relatively dark. Charlie filmed down an alley which is close to where he lives. The alley was a good place to film because it sets the genre of action thriller and promotes mystery to the scene. Our group had also planned the chase scene occurring in an alley. Charlie filmed with one of his friends. His friend was the character being chased and Charlie filmed the point of view shots of the character chasing the other character. One of Charlies problems whilst filming was that the camera ran out of battery power which resulting in the filming to be delayed whilst he charged the battery.

When uploading the footage we were unable to upload it to the schools Mac books. This was because the software did not support the high video quality. We over came this problem by using Charlie's Mac book Pro to upload the footage for the time being whilst the software on the schools Mac books is being fixed.

First Draft of Animatic

This is the first copy of our animatic it is reasonably accurate to our short list but still needs some editing.
